THE FOUNDERS

Upgrade Bikes was founded by two friends Damian Mason & Matt Ryley who met at secondary school in 1979 and were both into bikes. They both loved GT and Kuwahara BMXs, tracker bikes assembled from anything they could find, Klunkers and early MTBs, Dawes Galaxies and Falcon Black Diamonds to name but a few that further fuelled their passion for a life behind bars. This passion ultimately led them to starting Upgrade Bikes in 1995.
Fast-forward to 2026, and Upgrade Bikes now distributes over two-dozen market-leading must-have brands to around 1,500 UK bike shops, backed up with dedicated account managers, sales and service managers, and a customer-care warranty team.
